What Upbeat Impulse is, and isn't
I share simple calming exercises and the research behind them. Please read this before you use anything on this site.

In a crisis? Please don't wait for an article. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country.
Not medical or psychological advice
Everything on Upbeat Impulse, including blog posts, emails and printables, is for general information only. It is not medical, psychological or therapeutic advice, and it is not a diagnosis or treatment of any condition.
I'm not a therapist, psychologist or doctor. I'm a curious reader who tests small calming habits on myself and writes about them in plain words.
Not a replacement for professional help
The exercises here can be a small support on hard days. They don't replace care from a qualified professional. If you're dealing with ongoing anxiety, depression, trauma, an abusive relationship or anything that feels too heavy to carry alone, please reach out to a doctor, therapist or counselor.
About the research I mention
When I refer to a study, I link to it and try to say both what it found and where it has limits, such as a small group of participants or a short time frame. Research changes, and one study doesn't prove that something will work for everyone.
Results are personal
What helps one person may not help another. I can't promise any specific result from an exercise, post or printable. You're responsible for how you use the information on this site.
Links to other websites
Some posts link to other websites and studies. I don't control those sites and I'm not responsible for their content.
